UPMA (SUJI KA UPMA)

Ingredients required

  • Suji(Semolina/Rava) - 2 cups
  • water - 4 cups
  • Finely chopped onion - ½ cup
  • Sliced green chilly - 2
  • Finely chopped ginger - 1 tsp
  • Cashew nuts - 10
  • Mustard seeds - ¼ tsp
  • Cumin seeds(jeera) - ¼ tsp
  • Chana dal(Bengal gram) - ½ tsp
  • Urad dal(Black gram) - ½ tsp
  • Red chilly - 1
  • Curry leaves - as required
  • Coriander leaves - as required
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Oil - 3 tsp
  • Ghee - 2 tsp
      Method to prepare
      1. Take a pan, add 1 tsp of Ghee and allow to heat. Add suji, fry for 4 to 5 minutes in low flame and keep aside.
      2. Take a Kadai, add rest of the oil and allow to heat.
      3. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, chana dal, urad dal, cashew nuts, chopped ginger, curry leaves and fry for 2 to 3 minutes 
          in low flame.
      4. Add water, salt, coriander leaves and let it boil. Now, add fried suji little by little by stirring continuously, so that no lumps 
          will form.
      5. Close the lid and cook for 2 minutes in low flame. Add ghee, mix well and switch off the flame.
      6. Delicious & softy upma is ready. Serve it hot with allam chutney or ground nut chutney.
