- Karela - 250 gms
- Chopped onion - 1 cup
- Sliced green chilly - 1
- Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds - ¼ tsp
- Cumin seeds - ¼ tsp
- Tamarind juice - ½ cup
- Sugar - 1½ tsp
- Coriander powder - 1 tsp
- Cumin(jeera)powder - ½ tsp
- Methi powder - ¼ tsp
- Turmeric powder - ¼ tsp
- Salt - ¾ tsp
- Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
- Curry leaves - as required
- Coriander leaves - as required
- Oil - 3 tsp
Method to prepare
1. Slice the karelas in the shape of circle.
2. Take a bowl, add sliced karelas, ½ tsp salt, mix and keep aside for 5 minutes.
3. Mash gently with hand, squeeze the karela slices and keep aside.
4. Take a pan, add oil and allow to heat.
5. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, onion, green chilly and fry for 3 minutes in medium flame.
6. Now add ginger garlic paste, fry for 2 minutes and add karela slices.
7. Then add turmeric powder, salt, red chilly powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, methi powder, mix well and fry
for 2 to 3 minutes in low flame.
8. Add tamarind juice, sufficient water, close the lid and cook for 8 minutes in low flame.
9. Add sugar, coriander leaves, cook for 2 minutes and switch off the stove.
10. Katta meetha kakarakaya pulusu is ready. Serve with rice.
