KATTE PONGALI

Ingredients required

  • Rice - 2 cups
  • Moong dal_split green gram) - 1 cup
  • Oil - 2 tsp
  • Ghee - 3 tsp
  • Salt - 1 tsp
  • Black pepper corns - ¼ tsp
  • Black pepper powder - 1 tsp 
  • Cumin powder - ½ tsp
  • Cumin seeds - ¼ tsp
  • Mashed ginger - 1 tsp
  • Cashew nuts - 10
  • Asafoetida(hing) - ¼ tsp

  • Curry leaves - as required

      Method to prepare 
      1. Take pressure cooker, add rice, moong dal, pepper corns, 6 cups of water and cook for 3 whistles.
      2. Add salt to the rice, mix well and keep this cooked rice aside.
      3. Then take a pan add oil, 1 tsp of ghee and allow to heat.
      4. Now add, cumin seeds, mashed ginger, hing, cashew nuts, curry leaves and fry for 2 minutes in low flame.
      5. Add cumin powder, pepper powder and switch off the flame. Add this to the cooked rice.
      6. Add rest of the ghee and mix well.
      7. Tasty katte pongal is ready. Serve hot.
