PAPPU BILLALU/CHEKKALU

Ingredients required
  • Rice flour - 500 gms
  • Chana dal - 125 gms
  • Grated green chilly - 4
  • Grated garlic - 1½ tsp
  • Cloves - 2
  • Cinnamon stick - 1
  • Curry leaves - as required
  • Cumin seeds - ½ tsp
  • Salt - 1 tsp
  • Water - as required
  • Oil - to fry
      Method to prepare
      1. Soak chana dal in water for one hour, strain it and keep aside. 
      2. Powder the cloves and cinnamon stick and keep aside.
      3. Take a pan, add rice flour, salt and mix it well.
      4. Add soaked chana dal, grated garlic, green chilly, cloves & cinnamon stick powder, cumin seeds, curry leaves and mix  
          thoroughly.
      5. Add water to the mixture until you are able to make the dough into balls.
      6. Make balls in same size and keep aside.
      7. Take plastic sheets or milk covers, apply oil on it, place the ball and spread it using your palm into round in shape.
      8. Do the same procedure for rest of balls.
      9. Place a kadai, pour oil and allow to heat.
     10. Drop them into oil carefully(approx - 6 to 7 pcs) and fry on both sides in medium flame.
     11. When they turn into golden brown in color, take out from oil.
     12. Traditional dish pappu billalu are ready.
     13. Celebrate our festival.
